So I am working on New Year's Eve :( but it does not look like I would have had any other plans for morning/afternoon. Going to the movies and dinner with my family when I get off work at five! Until then...
This is my OOTD for work, the scarf is actually from Claire's and is on clearance for $4!! I tied the tassels together in the back to make this traditional scarf into an infinity!
And of course I am in love with the Fossil watch Chris got me for Christmas!!

Sally Hansen NEW! Salon Gel Polish Tutorial
Sorry about the lack of blogs, I have gone through a rough week and a half. Starting with swollen lips (who knows why, possibly an allergic reaction), followed by a severe cold that knocked me off my feet for a few days (still recovering), a cavity filling, and finally food poisoning. So much for a relaxing winter break! Of course Christmas was busy and wonderful with the family, sadly I was still feeling a little under the weather. But as 2012 comes to a close, I am feeling healthy and extremely happy and optimistic for 2013.
On to what this post is really all about: the Sally Hansen Salon Gel Polish kit. I bought this kit almost a month ago when it came out and I have since purchasing done my nails twice. Twice. And I have had two chips in my nails since I started using this kit. Just with that I am sure I will convince some people to go out and purchase it. So if you got this for Christmas but haven't tried it out yet, or you need to do some returns on gifts you did not love--look into buying this instead! I bought the actual Gel Polish Kit, not the Gel Polish Strips Kit. The price difference is around $40. If you buy the Gel Polish Kit you are looking into spending around $70 (check online for coupons before you buy, I got $5 off), the Gel Polish Strips Kit is about $30 depending where you shop.
The reason I bought the Gel Polish Kit is because you can only use the Gel Nail Strips one time, and you can only cure one finger at a time with the UV light included. The Gel Polish Kit comes with base coat, one of three colors: Shell We Dance (light pearly pink), Red My Lips (stoplight red), and Wine Not (the color I bought, a sparkly deep red), and a top coat. The kit comes with enough polish for around 10 at home manicures. To me that was totally worth it. So here we go with the tutorial!

This is what the box looks like if you were to grab it off the shelf, my Target had two total in stock, so this box had been pushed around a ton and so it wasn't in the best condition when it reached my hands.
The pieces in the box shifted around before I got it, as you can see the acetone had fallen into the UV light, but nothing was really damaged.
Note: Do one hand at a time, it makes for an easier experience!
Step 1: Start with clean nails! Take of any polish you have and trim them to your desired length. I prefer my nails as short as possible because I have such long nail beds.
Step 2: File your nails into the shape you like, using the pink side of the file provided in the kit. I like my nails rounded.
Step 3: Push back your cuticles (if you have a cuticle remover creme you can use that here too!)
Step 4: Buff your nails with the grey side of the file provided, be sure to do this well so the gel polish has a clean smooth surface to cling to!
Step 5: Open a Nail Cleanser Pad (or rubbing alcohol on a cotton ball) and wipe down each nail.
Step 6: Apply a thin coat of the gel base coat, cure in the UV light for 30 seconds (the light will automatically shut off after 30 seconds).
Step 7: Apply a thin coat of the colored gel polish, cure for 30 seconds, apply a second thin coat, cure for 30 seconds.
Step 8: Apply thin coat of gel top coat, cure 30 seconds. Afterwards be sure to wipe with nail cleanser pad (or cotton ball with rubbing alcohol).
Step 9: Admire the Gel Manicure you just gave yourself!!!!
I am a little late posting this blog, because it has been nine days since I did this home manicure, but because of that I can show you what my nails currently look like!
Besides a couple chips on the top of the nails they are still pretty perfect! I love them!

Snack Time!
So now that I am home for winter break, I get to resume my job of making dinners for the family. I love cooking, and being home allows me to try out new recipes! First things first though, find ways for my little sister to enjoy packed lunches. I definitely know the feeling of being sick of sandwiches day after day after day, but there are ways to fix that! My sister got an at home pretzel maker! So I made her some of her favorite Auntie Anne's pretzels. The kit was really easy and straight-forward, I am sorry that I did not do a step-by step guide on how to do it, but the finished results were delicious!
You can find this kit at any grocery store of your choosing, in the baking aisle!

Notes and Lists Galore!
I love note pads. And Post-Its, but especially notepads. It is something about writing out everything I need to do to stay organized and then being able to cross things off my lists. So of course when I saw a bunch of notepads at Marshall's and I had to get one. Which might have turned into one notepad and another package of three notepads (how could I resist! They had "S"'s on them!).
This is one of those notepads that have a magnet that will keep them closed most of the time. I plan on using this one to take on my Duty Rounds with a little pen and write down if I need to put any IR's or Work Orders in!
And this is the three-pack, I actually am taking notes on other things that I want to blog about right now! And that pen is so adorable, I love everything about these notepads.
I have started to collect these things, and my stationary collection too! When I find something I like I need a ton of it. My current stationary is hot pink with cats on it! I got six packages from the dollar spot in Target. Wonderful. So anyone out there that enjoys notepads or stationary (or knows someone who does and needs a stocking stuffer gift) go to Marshall's!

Winter Closing Bulletin Board
So it is that time of the semester again...crunch time. And I will not lie, I have neglected my blogging duties and I should have gotten this up over a week ago. So here is my Winter Closing Bulletin Board:
It is a Winter Wonderland Theme!
So I wanted die-cut the title, the "Countdown to Break!" title and the numbers on each circle. I also did the snowmen from the die-cut machine! Behind each number is a winter-themed joke, activity to do on winter break, study tip, or something to do to prepare for closing (in case my residents do not read the rest of the board!). Each snowman has an instruction for preparing for the winter closure and next to that is the timeline where the residents can look (in case they missed my other two explanations) and know what is going on for winter closing.
My tactic behind this board was that no matter what my residents could not say they had no idea they had to be out by 7 pm on December 14. I just hope that Friday at seven we will have an empty building to close!
I am so excited for this semester to be over, and to enjoy my winter break!!!

Bllllllack Friday OOTD!
I just want to say that I am not a Black Friday shopper at all. At all. And that might be because I have anxiety at the thought of fighting people for deals or because nothing has seem important enough for me to wait in lines in the cold/rain for hours on end. But I will say that I was excited to work Black Friday this year at Claire's! My manager texted me this morning to wear all black in celebration of Black Friday and you will never guess who forgot to pack black leggings and did not have a black top on hand...This girl. But after a quick trip to the store (clearance rack!) and $28 later I had my Black Friday outfit!
I decided that a red lip would look nice with my black outfit and leopard loafers and I flat ironed my hair, threw on some Claire's jewelry that I bought last summer and I was off to work! It was not too busy tonight, but I enjoyed getting back into the swing of things back at my store! I will be returning over my winter break, so expect a Claire's haul at some point!

Fall Day in Sacramento
So one of my favorite reasons for going to school at Sac State is how campus looks in fall. In short, it is the most breathtaking campus in the world. I will stop there and just put up a picture I had on Instagram.
It is so pretty here! And there are some red trees on the other side of campus, maybe I'll trek there next week!

Red Pants!
I got the best compliment ever on this outfit today, someone asked me "Since when did you become Martha Stewart?" And to be completely honest, it made me smile. Except the whole jail thing, I really do like Martha Stewart! But that wasn't necessarily what I was going for when I got dressed. So here is my outfit!

I look for any excuse to wear these pants.

Thanksgiving Date
So for those of us that do not live close to home (I'm only an hour and a half away, but sometimes it feels like years in the car!) that means that we do not have the luxury of being able to go to both our houses and our significant other's house for Thanksgiving. This is the second year in a row that this has happend to Chris and me. So for the second year in a row we made our own Thanksgiving! We keep it super simple, I do not have the skills (yet!) or time to make an entire Thanksgiving dinner for two. So here are a few simple ideas on how to create a simple Thanksgiving date for two!
Dinner:
-Bread
-Canned Cranberries
-Sliced Turkey
-Instant Mashed Potatoes
I love this date and I almost forgot about it. Because I am on duty this weekend in my building I had to have Chris pick up all of the supplies. He was super sweet and the only reason he had not offered before was because he thought I was going to surprise him, so I am glad that I did ask. So once you prepare your sandwich the way that you like (Chris: just turkey, bread and mustard. Samantha: turkey, cranberries, and mashed potatoes) then you just sit down and be thankful to be in love with the person of your dreams (or just get to know each other!!) and enjoy the Thanksgiving spirit.
Thanksgiving Sandwich (the name of my masterpiece), our dinner, and the two of us in love!

Disclaimer: I am not baled! I wore a hair donut in my hair that did not show in the pictures!

Lazy Fall Day Outfit
So as it is my Duty Weekend (last one of the semester!) I have gotten a lot of cleaning and organizing done, but I have yet to start my homework. So I took some time after some lunch to curl my hair and put on some makeup. Weekends where I have to stay on campus are always nicer when I have my hair done and my face on! And it gives me practice at perfecting makeup techniques! So here is my version of a "lazy fall day" out fit.
From my head to my toes:
-Bangs pulled back on curly hair with bobby pins
-Brown baggy t-shirt
-Stripped sweater cardigan
-Black capri leggings
-My Target boots (which I have always called TUGGS).
I love looking nice!

Doorstop!
So as an RA we like to have our doors open so that students can always come see us! But up until a few days ago I was stuffing a flip-flop in my door to prop it open. Not cute. I got a wooden doorstop and some hot pink paint and glitter nail polish and now I have a beautiful doorstop!
Materials You Will Need:
-Paint (Any type of paint will do, in any color I chose a washable paint)
-Glitter Nail Polish (Probably 1/3-1/2 a bottle)
-Wooden Doorstop!
I took this picture after I finished my doorstop so that's why I didn't include a "before" picture.
Just so you know, my doorstep took four coats of paint--waiting for each coat to dry in between. This project took a couple of days to complete in my free time. So I know you're all dying to see--the finished product!:
So pretty! I love having my door open and propping it with this piece of art!

Girl's Night RA Program
So last night I had a program in my building with some of the ladies (and gentlemen) in my building. My coworker and I hosted this program together and our goal was to have a program promoting body image.
So when we sat down we decided that a "Girl's Night" theme would be best and we wanted to have an activity that had to do with common girl's night activities. So I said I would find a facial to do on Pinterest and in the end I decided that we would do this facial. It was an orange juice/baking soda face mask. All you have to do is combine enough baking soda in orange juice to make a paste and then rub it all over your face! The blogger said that this facial is great at removing blackheads and the acid in the orange juice will tighten your pores and the vitamin C brightens your face. I can agree with all of the above, when doing the face mask (see pictures below) I could feel my blackheads being pulled out of my skin and other people that did the facial with me would agree!
We also wanted to do an activity that would help the girls bond with each other especially if they were not necessarily good friends in the hall. Let's face it, often times if you live on the first floor of the building you don't venture "all the way" to the third floor to hang out with people. This is not always the case, but often it is true. So we had Pick-Me-Up cups at our program as well. The idea behind the Pick-Me-Up cups is that when you are sad you can go to your cup, pull out a slip of paper and read something that your peer said about you that was kind/sweet/funny and it will brighten your mood. So we had the girls get a paper cup and start writing slips of paper about each other, encouraging them to write slips to people outside their group of friends that they came with. This was actually very successful and the girls actually participated and even made a couple cups for their guy friends in the building that only stopped by the program for a short while!
Finally, my favorite part of the program was the Barbie Box that I made! So the idea behind the Barbie Box was to show that the actual "Barbie Body" is not only extremely unhealthy, but impossible. This article was the inspiration I used to make the box. What I found interesting was the facts about how if Barbie was real she would be 6' tall, have a 39" bust, 18" waist, and 33" hips. In short, Barbie would be anorexic. We wanted all of the girls at our program to know that they are beautiful the way they are and that anyone can be Barbie!

Team Too Organized
So most of the people that know me know that I LOVE an organized room. When I say love I mean LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!! So tonight is my duty night and I planned on doing a couple touch ups to my room including finally unpacking my winter clothes (it will be in the 50's this week!!). This is a great way to organize scarves, gloves, and your other fall/winter accessories. So I have one of those scarf-organizer hangers that you can buy for around ten bucks at Marshall's and did the following:
1. Pick out scarf-hanger wrack, here are some online choices: One, Two, Three, Four, Five
2. Separate your accessories to these categories.
-Fashion Scarves
-Winter (warmth) Scarves
-Gloves
-Hats
3. Put each of these categories together in your organizer.
4. Admire your mad organization skills!

November Bulletin Board
So my November bulletin board covers the "Financial" aspect of the Wellness Wheel and my board is a Candyland theme! So the title was "The Sweet Path to Financial Responsibility" and each character from the game represented different ways to be financially responsible. It is so cute and all of the people on my floor stop by to look at it all the time!
I used the following "Financial Responsibility" categories and a short explanation of each:
-What Is Financial Responsibility?
-App to stave and manage money
-I chose the smart phone application "Mint" and gave some pro/cons that I found on a review
-Credit Cards
-Couponing
-Budgeting
-Saving Money
-Student Discounts (Sacramento State Students and College Students Nationwide)

Back To Basics...Date Night
So I know that this blog was originally about making myself plan out more creative dates with my Christopher. But between work and school our date nights have consisted of catching up on TV shows and preparing for my programs (I know...romantic). So I was so glad that last Friday we decided that we were going to go and hit up the Dixon Corn Maze! So in case you are not from the Sacramento Area the Dixon Corn maze is a 2007 Guinness Book of World Records award winning corn maze. It is the largest corn maze in the world. This was my third time completing the maze (first time with Chris) and it is really awesome because you get to go through the maze at night by flashlight!! Of course if that scares you there is a day-time option too! But I love this corn maze because it is a wonderful fall-themed activity that is relatively inexpensive ($10). It took Chris and I roughly two hours to make our way through. The way I like to put it is you can spend ten bucks and go to the movies any Friday night but this type of activity is exclusive to fall and it takes about as long as watching a movie would be! And it's great exercise! I was definitely wiped after we finished and on our way back to Sacramento we stopped and ate some dinner.
Here is a photo of us in front of the Cool Patch Pumpkin before we started the maze!

Sooo...I Redid the Anniversary Present
Remember way back in March when I made Chris the shadow box for our anniversary? A place to display the Playbill, tickets, and pictures we took when we saw Les Mis? Well we did end up seeing it in August (it was amazing!) but I wanted to re-do the shadow box to make it look something like this, an "Admit One" box where we could put all of our ticket stubs because I keep all of that stuff for sentimental value. So last night while I was on duty (RA terminology meaning I was the "on call" resident advisor for the night) I re-did the box! This is how I did it!
Materials:
-12x12 Shadow Box (I chose black)
-12x12 Piece of Scrapbook Paper (or whatever size your shadow box is)
-Letter Stickers (mine were silver)
-Ticket Stubs, Playbills, or whatever else you want to put in the box!
1) Place the stickers to say "Admit One" on the scrapbooking paper
2) Place all of your stubs and whatnot in the box
3) Close the box back up
4) Optional: Cut a slit at the top of the shadow box to easily put new ticket stubs inside!
I didn't do the optional part because I didn't want to cut a slit large enough for Playbills in case we go to other plays/musicals. It's up to you but this is a really cheap gift if you are a scrapbooker like I am, I found the shadow box only for $10 and that was my total cost.

October Bulletin Board!
So I had to have my October Bulletin Board up today! I am so excited to see if the residents like it! It is a "Physical" themed board and it is Pac Man! The title is: "In life there are no extra lives" meaning that you should treat your body with respect and exercise and eat healthy. My school has a state-of-the-art wellness center that has a fantastic gym and health services department. I actually did a diet analysis and I am meeting with a nutritionist on Wednesday to help me eat healthier and be an all around healthier person! But I know what you really want to see is my board, here it is!
I included the fitness classes that my school's gym has, gym hours, health center cooking demonstrations, and ways to exercise in their rooms along with workouts they can do at the gym!

Nail Polish + Keys = Fabulous!
I saw these keys on Pinterest a few months ago and they inspired me to do this as a craft when I really needed a creative outlet! I am sure that I am not the only college student walking around with a bunch of keys. Two keys to my house back home, one key to my room here in Sacramento, and the key to Carol (my 2002 gold Honda Accord). So obviously I wanted to try this out! I grabbed two bottles of nail polish, some glitter polish, and I went to town. If you live in a residence hall like I do, please ask your RA if you are allowed to paint your key. My res hall does not allow this, so I painted my house keys.
Warning: Only do this craft if you are patient and do not mind waiting an hour or so in between coats of polish, I waited overnight before putting on the glitter polish. So now that you have been warned...
Material's Needed:
-Nail Polish (one color per key, if you want)
-Glitter Nail Polish (optional)
-Keys!
1) Grab your key and paint one thin layer of nail polish on one side. Allow some time to dry. Proceed to painting the inside holes of the key and the outer rim. Please note: you cannot place the key face down on a table at this point because the key may still be wet even if it feels dry! I stuck my keys in a couple of textbooks with the top sticking out so they could suspend and dry that way. Also, only paint the top part of the key (as seen in the picture) or else when you go to use your key it will scratch the paint off in your lock!
2) Repeat step one until desired color is achieved (I did two coats for each color and allowed to dry in between).
3) Let keys dry for a loooong time, I let mine dry overnight because I started this craft at 8 PM, but I would still allow a couple of hours for all layers of paint to dry.
4) If you want your keys to sparkle, apply a layer of glitter nail polish to your keys! I let mine dry while I was at class for three hours and that was more than enough.
5) Very carefully put your keys back on your key ring. This is where your key could be scratched, so be careful!!!
6) Enjoy your beautiful keys!

Year-and-a-Half-Versary...?
Okay so I am just going to throw this out right now, I am not a huge fan of celebrating "month milestones." I do think it is super cute if the boy (because more often than not, he will forget) remembers to say something, but for the most part it isn't important. Yesterday was Chris and myself's year and a half milestone. And it was cool, it was nice thinking about how much I love my guy and how wonderful he is. So I got him a wicked cool Batman t-shirt (because we both love him in superhero t's) and a pack of cards he collects. I also wrote him a note, we had dinner at his house and played some games with his family. I loved it because it was a special day for us, but we just did our day-to-day routine. When I got back to my building from class today I saw my first piece of mail in my box!! A letter from Chris! It was a year-and-a-half-aversery card that he had hoped to get to me yesterday, but it was perfect! I even Instagram-ed it! Here is a copy of the picture, I put two pictures of the card and a photo of the day I met Chris.

Packing for a Three-Day Getaway
I am sure that those of us doing the long-distance thing are not strangers to packing for a couple days here and there with the one we love. So when I saw this article it reminded me of the last little vacation Chris and I took to Tahoe for his cousin's wedding. His grandpa told me the same thing! I have a little problem of over-packing when I go on trips. Especially when I attempt to pack light. So here are some tips that I took from that article and applying it to my train journey where I bring the smallest suitcase (more like an overnight bag) and try as hard as I can to pack as many outfits as possible! When you want to pack like this, the trick is that instead of folding the clothes (like one of the pictures below), you roll them up, this takes up about half the space as traditional folding. Keep this in mind when you must use only a carry-on or if you are trying to save space. Re-packing after the trip takes a little bit longer but it is SO worth it. Here goes nothing...
So first off, I made a list of where I was going. The problem with this is that I'm only sure of one activity we are doing. But I also wrote down the weather so I could pack according to that.
Second, I made a rough list of things that would be appropriate for activities and weather.
Finally, the fun part. I went through my closet and drawers and tried my best to put together outfits that included layers of clothes that I could wear in the morning, shed in the head, and then put back on if it cooled down at night. (Don't forget underwear too!)
Here are all of the things I need to put in my tiny bag.

First Day of Spring Nails!
These are my nails for the first day of Spring! I thought I would also do a flower on my ring finger because that is the new popular trend! The pink/coral color I used is OPI Melon of Troy and the white was OPI Alpine Snow.

Our First Anniversary
So yesterday was my first anniversary with Chris! It was really a wonderful day. Very low-key, just the way we like it. And since we are trying our hardest to save every penny we have (well, we both splurged this anniversary, so that's another reason why we needed to save as much as possible), we decided to just make a wonderful dinner and enjoy each other's company.
So first off we started off with opening presents! I already showed you all what I made Chris, but he was so happy and excited when he got his Les Mis tickets! I know I am very excited to go in August! And He gave me the most beautiful promise ring :)
Then we ran to Safeway to pick up groceries in order to make this recipe! A whole chicken in a Crock Pot. I was a little nervous, wondering how it would turn out, but it did turn out very well and we were very satisfied. We even had enough left over for my roommates to have dinner as well! So I made a little bit of an alteration in the recipe, if you were wondering. I added carrots to the bottom of the Crock Pot because Chris and I do not like onions, and I added two cloves of garlic into the seasoning and three into the carrot bottom of the pot. The chicken took about four hours to cook on high and smelled wonderfully of garlic (if you do not like garlic, take it out!). The pictures above are the chicken in the crock pot and me holding our dinner as I prepared it!
We also had rice, fruit salad (apples, grapes, and banana), garlic bread, and cupcakes! Of course we had to have sparkling cider as well because this was such a special occasion! And with my fake candle lit (obviously, I still live in a dorm room, no real candles allowed!) we sat to our romantic dinner.
It was a wonderful day with my love. To many, many more anniversaries!

Anniversary Gift
So Chris and I have our first anniversary on Monday (I know, exciting!) and I bought us tickets to se Les Miserables in San Francisco this summer for him. but I was not going to just hand him an envelope with tickets inside! So I bought a scrapbook page shadow box onlin and decorated it as if we had already gone to the show and were putting together a little memory box. I looked up the measurments of a Playbill and made room for a picture of us and our ticket stubs. I taped the tickets inside (carefully so they can be removed of course) and now I cannot WAIT to give him his gift!

Date Night!
Double Netflix Date:
So last night Chris took me out to Olive Garden (my first time going!) and then we decided to go back to my house and pick a date out of the date jar! We picked a double-feature Netflix date! So each of us got to choose a movie and watch both! It was very fun because I got to pick first and Chris was going to just "torture me" (I'm thinking a Battlestar Galactica movie!) if I were to make him sit through a sappy romance movie (two in one week is a little much). So I decided to have us watch Big with tom Hanks and Chris chose Mrs. Doubtfire with Robin Williams. Which part of that movie was shot in my Hometown!!! Small world! Well I hope you guys will enjoy this date idea! Happy dating!

Craft Day Saturday Continues!
So I made a date jar! I had seen these online on various blogs and I loved the idea. Chris and I spend so much time trying to figure out what to do with our time together. So I asked him to think up some ideas he would enjoy doing, and I thought up a lot more from different websites, blogs, and Pinterest. So since I was able to use the paint and stickers from my last craft I just had to buy the following items (on my Michael's trip).
- Mason Jar - $1.29
- Red Ribbon - $2.50
What I did to make this jar was paint the whole thing with white acrylic paint (two to three coats, gotta make sure you cannot see through it), and then once it was dry I used a little stick to draw a circle (scratching out paint) and then get all the paint scratched out of the circle. Then I added some Valentine's Day Stickers and a red ribbon! I also puff painted around the outside of the circle just to give it a bit more of a finished look.
I cannot wait to start using this date jar! I will write about our dates from the jar (and our planned dates!). Enjoy your craft day!
Craft Day Saturday!!
So Chris has been mentioning how much he loves when I send him love notes, but he does not have anywhere to put them. So they just sit in a pile collecting dust in his room. And even though this might just be a box that collects dust I am very proud of it and the story on how it came about!
Chris and I went to Michaels yesterday so I could get craft supplies and I was looking for puff paint. I found a store worker and asked him to point me in the right direction and instead takes me to the exact aisle i needed! And then told me that it was "Random Act of Kindess Day" and handed me an envelope. Inside was a $5 gift card! But then I got some even better deals for this craft!
Supplies:
-Craft Box: $2.99
-'L' Letter: $1.99
-White Puff Paint: $1.19
-Red Acrylic Paint: $.77
-White Acrylic Paint: $.77
-Valentine's Sale Stickers: $.89
-Sponge Brush: $.07
-Heart Wood Chips: $.05
So for $8.72 (not including tax, or $3.72 if you include my gift card) I got to add white and red to my acrylic paint collection, white to my puff paint collection, and an adorable box for my love to store his letters! The really great deal was that sponge brush because they were 4 for $1, regularly $.49 each! So when I saw the brush rang up for $.07 it was a pleasant surprise, especially because I was all ready to buy four of them!

Our First Valentine’s
So today was not exactly as I had expected. I sent Chris his Valentine in the mail yesterday because he was working today and I did not plan on seeing him. So I was quite surprised when he called me this morning and surprised me and took me out to breakfast! We were very crunched for time, so McDonalds was what we ate, and it was absolutely perfect. The romantic gesture made my heart melt and reminded me of why I fell in love with him in the first place. That and he made me an AWESOME pink Nerf Gun. Awesome.
